About the canoe

Most of these canoes are made with light-colored "summer bark" used for the main hull sheet, with dark winter bark side panels used to piece the main sheet out for width, and providing a field for etched decorations just under the gunwales. This 16-foot canoe is one of the few that are made with an entire sheet of winter bark for the hull, which offers a field of decoration limited only by the waterline. The design was formed by scraping away the background, and is based on an old Passamaquoddy canoe model. Inside beam 28", depth 12"
